It’s been a busy week of making and doing at Stanley James Press. We used the Gocco printer for the first time, to print some flyers for our upcoming charity party The Cosmic Snowball. It’s a cool little device for printing postcard size stuff. I’m a bit worried the consumables will run out as its no longer in production. Emily ordered a load of ink, screens and bulbs, so we’ve got some stock to keep us going. Emily has also been busy putting the finishing touches on her calendar for 2012, which is heading off to the screen printers next week. Oh, and we finally got around to making some letterpress business cards for us.
I’ve been super busy with People Who Do, lots of changes, new challenges and opportunities to leave the safety of my comfort zone, which is good. I’m loving how we’ve grown the company, next year is going to be very exciting.
In between People Who Do, sleeping, trying not to stumble into drying printing and developing negatives, I’ve been working on the Microsoft Phone Book video, which is almost ready to share. Took some more film photos yesterday, so I need to develop and scan and get them into the film. But, we are really happy with it.
Embarking on a new venture - making notebooks (for others). After playing around with the idea for the past 6 months, the need has arisen for me and Emily to do a bit more than just play around. I have a business need, my company, People Who Do likes to give people handmade things like notebooks - I would prefer us to be making them. I also have a personal need, to make nice things, to constantly be thinking about the design of things like paper and notebooks.
I just sent notebooks to Sam and Mark who have some plans to do something special with them which they will document online - I love this idea, made me think about starting some kind of assignment based around one of our notebooks that anyone can take part in.
If you’d like us to make you one (or more), let us know. We are in the process of setting up a place to buy online, in the meantime, just email us to find out more.
